Root, Pelletier, Lee Early Entries For Late Model Gold Cup; Race #1 At Flat Rock June 25

(FLAT ROCK, Michigan - June 14, 2011) - 2-time defending champion Mike Root, 2010 Flat Rock champ Paul Pelletier and 3-time Flat Rock king Eric Lee lead the list of early entries for race number 1 of the ARCA Allegiant Air Glass City Gold Cup Series, set for Saturday, June 25 at the ¼ mile paved oval at Flat Rock Speedway.  The 100 lap event for the Moran Chevrolet Late Models is expected to draw 25-30 cars from Michigan, Ohio, Indiana and Canada, with $2000 awaiting the winner. 

The Allegiant Air Gold Cup Series consists of 5 races, 2 at Flat Rock and 3 at Toledo Speedway for the 2011 season.  The Series will move next to Toledo for a 100 lap event Friday, July 8; back to Flat Rock Saturday, July 30 for the prestigious Moran Chevrolet/Stan Yee Memorial 150 Saturday, July 30, and then back down I-75 to Toledo for a Friday, August 12 contest of 100 laps on the ½ mile paved oval.  The championship event will be held Sunday afternoon, September 11 at Toledo, and will include a tribute to the 10th anniversary of 911.  More details will be announced at a later date regarding this event.

Root, the Grand Rapids, MI native, has won numerous Late Model races in the past 2 seasons and will be back to defend his Gold Cup championship.  Pelletier has a win at Flat Rock to his credit already in 2011 and was also the 2006 Flat Rock champ, in addition to last year’s title.  Second-generation driver Lee took the Flat Rock Late Model crowns in 2004, 2008 and 2009, and was victorious in the latest Late Model event at Flat Rock.

Additional early entries include 2007 Flat Rock champ Dennis Strickland.  Dennis is also a 3-time champion at Toledo, with titles in 1999, 2001 and 2005.  2-time Flat Rock titlist Dick Barker, 2003 Flat Rock champ Stan Yee Jr. and rookies Todd Perkins and Terry Bogusz have also filed entries.

Flat Rock’s June 25 time schedule has the pit area open at 1:30, practice is at 3, time trials are at 5 and racing begins at 7 p.m. The track’s Parts Galore Figure 8’s and DTS Drive Train Street Stocks will also be in action as part of the race card

An open practice session is scheduled for Wednesday, June 22 prior to the first Gold Cup event at “The Rock”.  The pits will open at 4, with practice from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The top 3 drivers in the final points will receive a pair of round-trip tickets from Toledo to Florida, courtesy of Allegiant Air.  A total of three (3) provisional starting positions are also reserved from the final points for the 23rd running of the Great Lakes Helicopters Glass City 200, set for Saturday, October 1.
