All American Coach “Fastest Short Track Show In World” Hits Toledo Friday

(TOLEDO, Ohio - June 13, 2011) - It’s the race that’s described by race fans as a “can’t miss race, you have to see it in person” and on and on.  It’s the All American Coach “Fastest Short Track Show in the World,” starring the Town Money Saver MSA Winged Super Modifieds and the winged Auto Value/Bumper to Bumper Super Sprints (AVBBSS)!  Created by Toledo track management, the event has become one of the top open-wheel pavement races in the country.  Time trials have taken on a name of its own, as the 2 groups vie for supremacy---who has the fastest race car on the planet!  The date is this Friday, June 17; the current entry lists are at the bottom of this release.

The Town Money Saver MSA Super Modified portion of the event has 23 entries to date, including that of defending race winner Tim Ice of Seville, OH.  Tim has plenty of laps at Toledo and has also been victorious at the Glass City oval on many occasions in a Late Model, including the Glass City 200 crown in 2000.  Past 2008 NASCAR Truck and 2005 Nationwide Series champ Johnny Benson of Grand Rapids, MI is also on the entry list, piloting a team car to Canadian Mike Lichty.  Former Toledo race winners Lou Cicconi of Philadelphia, PA, and Jon Henes of LaGrange, OH are scheduled to race Friday on the big ½ mile.  2010 Sandusky Hy-Miler champ Mark Sammut of London, Ontario Canada, fellow Canadian Gary Morton, 2011 MSA tour regular Bobby Dawson of South Amherst, OH and the MSA regulars are ready to tackle the fast Toledo track.  Dawson and Cicconi both have a pair of wins this season in MSA competition.   Second-generation star Dave (DJ) Shullick Jr. is also entered.  Charlie Schultz of Lorain, OH took his MSA winged creation into the 12 second bracket to lead the Super Modifieds at 12:999 last year and will be back for Friday’s contest.

blondewintoledo10.jpg2010 Toledo Fastest Short Track Show winner Jason Blonde will lead the charge of the Auto Value/Bumper to Bumper Super Sprints to the Glass City Friday.  Local favorites Dave Baumgartner (Ottawa Lake, MI) and Jimmy McCune (Toledo) will be in the hunt for the coveted title of a race win for this spectacular event.  Veterans Billy Tyler (Parma, MI), Jeff Bloom (Bangor, MI), former track record holder Kevin Feeney (Oxford, MI), ageless Hank Lower (Angola, IN), and Canadian Ryan Litt are just some of the entries expected for the race.

In 2010, with few thoughts that the track record could be re-set, Derek Snyder wowed the crowd in his AVBBSS machine, clicking off a lap of 12:656!  Can the record be broken again?  The time trials are some of the most exciting and thrilling at any short track!  Each group will run separate race cards for this one-of-a-kind event.  The Super Modified record is held by Chris Perley at 12:893, set in 2009.

The speedway will stage a pre-race ticket sale for the June 17 contest only.  Race fans can save $5 per ticket by purchasing their tickets prior to race day.  Major credit cards are accepted for phone orders and on race day.  To obtain advance tickets, please call the track office at 419-727-1100.

The pit area will open at 1, practice begins at 3 and the front gates will also open at 3.  The much-anticipated time trials hit the track at 5 and racing begins at 7:30 p.m.  Log onto www.toledospeedway.com for further information and updates.
