Toledo Prepares For 3 Open-Wheel Shows; All American Coach “Fastest Short Track Show In World” June

(TOLEDO, Ohio - May 27, 2011) - While Toledo Speedway features stock car racing for a majority of their dates each season, the track prides itself on the variety of events it offers to race fans.  The open-wheel shows are some of the most popular on the calendar, and the Glass City oval has 3 events slated in the next few weeks.

The Buckeye 305 Winged Sprint Cars will return to Toledo for a second time this season after being washed out of their race May 13.  The Sandusky, OH based group will stage a complete show Friday, June 10 on Stanford-Allen Chevrolet/Cadillac Night.  The 305 cubic-inch engine winged machines use every inch of asphalt of the big ½ mile oval and have been a part of Toledo’s schedule for the past 4 years.  Joining them will be the track’s Parts Galore Figure 8’s, R & M Recycling Street Stocks and the Jeff’s Collision 4 Cylinders.  As a special treat, the second-ever “Road Course” race will be held, which uses parts of the ¼ mile, ½ mile and pit road!  The first race was held last September and proved to be quite entertaining for both fans and racers.

img9879.jpgThe second open-wheel contest has been described by race fans as a “can’t miss race, you have to see it in person” and on and on.  It’s the All American Coach “Fastest Short Track Show in the World,” starring the MSA Winged Super Modifieds and the winged Auto Value/Bumper to Bumper Super Sprints!  Created by Toledo track management, the event has become one of the top open-wheel pavement races in the country.  Time trials have taken on a name of its own, as the 2 groups vie for supremacy---who has the fastest race car on the planet!

In 2010, with few thoughts that the track record could be re-set, Derek Snyder wowed the crowd in his AVSS machine, clicking off a lap of 12:656!  Charlie Schultz took his MSA winged creation into the 12 second bracket to lead the Super Modifieds at 12:999.  Can the record be broken again?  The time trials are some of the most exciting and thrilling at any short track!  Each group will run separate race cards for this one-of-a-kind event.  Tim Ice is the defending MSA race winner, while Jason Blonde was the AVSS victor.

The speedway will stage a pre-race ticket sale for the June 17 contest only.  Race fans can save $5 per ticket by purchasing their tickets prior to race day.  Visa and Mastercard are accepted for phone orders and may be obtained by calling the track at 419-727-1100.

Friday evening, July 1, Hemelgarn Racing and Super Fitness present the USAC Sprints and Midgets in another open-wheel doubleheader.  The track will also honor the Nemire family as part of the festivities.  USAC has competed at Toledo since the 1970’s in their non-wing machines, which is the tradition of USAC open-wheel racing.
