Wendy's Night of Destruction Thrills Toledo Crowd

TOLEDO, OH  (9-3-10) --  On a crisp and cool Friday night, a huge crowd turned out to watch the Wendy's Night of Destruction at Toledo Speedway.  With the action wild, the fans cheered and laughed all night long after witnessing a great night of family fun and entertainment.  Wendy greeted the crowd and the Wendy's Hamburger chain provided giveaways and prizes for fans young and old.  Track announcer Gary Lindahl and Wendy, along with several lucky race fans, performed the Chicken Dance at intermission on the front straight.

Anthony Terris steered the Valvoline Instant Oil Change bus to victory in the School Bus Figure 8 contest.  Just 2 laps into the event, Troy Herrmann got dumped over on his side courtesy of assistance from track Figure 8 champion Dennis Whisman.  With a slick track from the oil and water dumped on the surface via some big hits, Terris slid around the Figure 8 course to take the win Robbie Loving (Wendy's), Joe Koester (Mayfly Tavern/R & M Recycling), Norm Lewallen (Jeff's Colllision of Toledo), Jack Franzil (Speedway Bar and Grille), Whisman (Burge Wrecking), Todd Perkins (Jeff's Collision of Toledo) and Herrmann (PB Fabrication).  Terris and Lewallen won the heat races.

The Fisher Marina Figure 8 Boat race was filled with excitement and a side-by-side finish.  Early leader Allen Bland Sr., with Sponge Bob aboard his boat, looked like the winner as he came down to the white flag.  Sponge Bob had other ideas as Bland's boat trailer became unhooked from his car, eliminating him from the race.  With Sponge Bob forced to watch the race upside down, Cory McCaughey and Pat Galvin battled wheel to wheel, boat to boat through the final turn.  Cory nosed across just slightly ahead of Galvin at the checkered flag, then had his boat break loose and sail into the catch fence as the crowd stood and roared their approval.  Bill Carberry, Craig Osenbaugh, Bland Sr., TJ Miller and Steve Winterhalter were next in line at the finish.

The duo of Adam Plonski/Chad Coulter led every lap to win the $750 top prize in the 12 lap Figure 8 Train race, which features 2 cars chained together; the front one with the engine, the back one with the brakes!  It's what happened behind the leaders that provided more thrills for the crowd.  On lap 2, Dan Apperson, towing his teammate Dennis Whisman, slid sideways, throwing Whisman over on his roof in turn 1 of the Figure 8 track.  Dennis slid upside down for several feet, but when Apperson's car straightened out and he hit the gas pedal again, Whisman's car snapped back up and over on 4 wheels and the duo continued on without losing a lap!  Challengers Howard Kelley Jr./Tom O'Leary III and Jeremy Fragassi/Jamie Bussard reeled in the leaders on separate laps, but Plonski/Coulter held their ground to score the victory.  Kelley Jr./O'Leary III took second, Fragassi/Bussard were third, Tom O'Leary Jr./Jim Brazeau fourth and Trina Apperson/Greg Stevens fifth, followed by Tom O'Leary IV/Charlie Williams, Apperson/Whisman and Andy Holly/Ron Duvall.

Recently-crowned ARCA Factory Stock champ Landon Schuster led every lap to win the 20 lap Factory Stock oval feature over Brian Graybill, Todd Perkins, Mike Hammer, Brian Moore, Archie Padgett, Craig Osenbaugh, McCaughey, Allen Bland Sr. and Eric Huston.  Hammer, in his first-ever Figure 8 event, ran in and out of intersection traffic to score the win in the 15 lap Factory Stock Figure 8 feature event.  Bland Sr. tried to catch the leader but settled for second, McCaughey was third, Huston fourth and Osenbaugh fifth.  Carberry, Miller, Galvin, Mike Hacker and Holly were next in line to complete the top ten.

Hammer made it 2 wins on the night by winning the backup race over Hacker, McCaughey, Miller and Osebaugh.  And to add just a touch more to a great night, Hammer also took the plywood race win over Hacker, McCaughey, Miller, Osebaugh and John Rabideau.  McCaughey started the night off with a win in the Race Car Bowling contest, knocking down all 10 barrels, "pins", in both frames.  Miller, Rabideau, Perkins and Osenbaugh were next in the final scores.
