VanDoorn Wins CRA Late Models; Busch Makes Appearance

(TOLEDO, Ohio - August 13, 2010) - NASCAR driver Kyle Busch visited with fans, signed autographs and took 150 lucky fans for a ride around Toledo Speedway in a bus Friday night, prior to the racing action.  On the speedway, John VanDoorn took the win in the Klotz Synthetic Lubricants 100 presented by Spray Power for the CRA Late Models.

Minnesota driver Joey Miller zipped into the lead, taking the lead from VanDoorn on lap 3 of the 100 lap grind and built up a sizable lead in the early stages.  A yellow flag erased his lead, giving VanDoorn and Scott Hantz the opportunity to challenge for the top spot.  Hantz scooted under VanDoorn and set his sights on the fast Miller, eventually going to the inside lane to take control of the event.  VanDoorn followed Hantz and the lead duo staged a battle.  The two touched several times entering turn 2 just past the halfway mark, giving VanDoorn back the lead.  John was able to maintain his margin while Miller and Hantz scrambled for second, with Miller grabbing the runner-up spot with 20 laps to go.  vandoornvltol081310.jpgVanDoorn took the checkered flag  over Miller, Hantz, Nick Gullatta, Brian Campbell, Rick Turner, JR Roahrig, John Long, Tyler Roahrig and Nick Lay.  The top 8 finished on the lead lap.  Miller set fast time for the 24 car field at 15:671.

The ARCA Factory Stocks ran their 20 lap feature race, with Cory McCaughey taking the checkered flag on his birthday.  Cory worked the inside lane and took the lead from Rick Cousino in the early stages and held on for the win, but encountered a lapped car, which was his sister, Emily, of all things!  Emily bobbled right in front of Cory on the final lap, but held on and her brother sped by on the way to the win.  Cousino took second, Todd Perkins third, Mike Hammer fourth and Don Cox fifth, followed by Dusty Brunt, Craig Osenbaugh, John Rabideau, Emily McCaughey and Mark Lavoie.  An early incident sent front-runners Landon Schuster and Eric Huston to the sidelines.  Huston set a new track record in qualifying with a lap of 11:737.  Cory, Osenbaugh and Brian Moore were the heat winners. mccaugheyvltol081310.jpg

Brad Turner was the winner of the 15 lap ARCA 4 Cylinder main event of the night, taking the lead on lap 12 from Perry Marlow.  Brad used the high side and stayed there on his way to victory over Marlow, Mike Marlow and David Katafiaz.  Turner set a new 1 lap mark at 12:508, with Perry Marlow taking the heat race win.
