Trackside Tidbits

By Debi Domby
(TOLEDO, Ohio - May 20, 2010) - Gary Cronenwett won his first career Figure 8 feature. "Thats not the way to get my first win. I got in there too hard and hit Dennis (Whisman). I want to thank my family and sponsors."

Stephanie Bradley backed up her first time heat win a couple weeks ago with another heat win this week. What I didnt know last time is she is the first woman to win a Figure 8 on the 8 track.

Chad Guinn won his first Street Stock A division feature in almost 16 years (although for most of the years he was racing in other divisions). Its about time. Its been three years since I won anything and my last street stock win was in 1994 (August 6). I want to thank Bill Meade and my family and my spo. The team worked so hard on this car over the winter and made it a lot better. The last time I won a street stock feature it went green-white-checker too, said the driver of the #86.

Jason Shinn sent me note on saying Saturday night was my first ever top 5 in a street stock, I finished fourth. It was nice to get the car out and run a full race and not have any failures. I have to thank Strickland Racing and my family for all the help and working to get the car better. We still have a lot to do but it's a start.

The #2 car was driven tonight by Mike Buckley. It has been about 20 years since hes raced a street stock racing in the ARCA RE/MAX division for most of that time. He finished 17th in the feature.

Rich Abel won the B main. "Thank the Lord. I'm blessed today. I lost a cylinder the last few laps." My list of B division winners only go back to 2006, but this was Rich's ninth B win since then.

Dennis Randall has the car formerly driven by Randy DiMaggio (who bought a boat this winter, in case you're wondering where he is). Oddly Randall didn't have to change the car number as both drivers run the #84. Dennis won one of the A division heats tonight, his first heat race win at Flat Rock.

A couple weeks ago Paul Duffin won his first career B division feature. He's sponsored by Paul's Flooring Service.

Frank Jiovani made his first start in street stock, moving up from the Legends division. He bought the car from Pat Zorn and finished 13th in it.

Also making her first start in the street stock division was Shondra Harbin, daughter of Joe Harbin. She had a rough time of it with a sick car all night.

Returning after a year and half absence is our lone Canadian Street Stock driver, Chris Hebert. He finished eighth in the feature.

Several drivers made an infrequent start tonight in the street stocks, Terry Lilley, Jason and Don Burkhart and Al Hasenfratz.

Short article this week. I didn't have as many people send me tidbits this week. If you have something you want to send, email me at icechips@hotmail.com or visit me on Facebook. If you want to get on my Facebook mailing list Sunday mornings, send me an invite.
