ARCA Factory Stocks Added to Glass City 200 Weekend

TOLEDO, OH: (9-25-09): Track officials have announced that the ARCA Speedway Tire and Auto Factory Stock class will be added to the Glass City 200 weekend presented by AP Motorsports. The addition of the division for the Saturday, October 3 event will see practice, qualifying and feature races for the group, with all their action on the ¼ mile paved oval.

The group will qualify "Lemans style", meaning practice also serves as the qualifying session.  With each car on the transponder system, the fastest lap will be recorded as their qualifying time for the race card.  A 20 lap A Main feature, and, if necessary, a 10 lap B Main is on the schedule for the class, which boasted car counts above 30 machines in the closing weeks of the 2009 season.

The Saturday, October 3 event culminates the 50th anniversary season of the Glass City oval.  Built in 1960 by Herb Koester and his family, the track started as a dirt surface but was paved the following summer.  Toledo is highly regarded as one of the fastest and most competitive ½ mile tracks in the nation and carries a great deal of history through its events, the touring series and the drivers that have made the left turns at Toledo throughout its existence.

All former track champions and Glass City 200 champions have been invited back for the 21st running of the race.  They will be introduced to the crowd prior to the start of the 200.  A large photo collage banner of the 20 Glass City winners and another banner listing all the track champions will be on display in the spectator concourse all day Saturday.

The race will pay $5500 to the winner, with $1000 earmarked to start the 200 lap classic.  With special awards and lap money on the line, a driver could walk away with over $7500 for his efforts.  LV Alliance has posted $500 for fast time.  The race will feature a 20 minute break at the lap 101 mark.  A total cash purse of over $60,000 has been posted for the 1-day event, which will also include the ARCA Sportsman cars and the Michigan Legends Cars and the recently-added Factory Stocks.

Friday, October 2 has an optional practice set for 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.  Saturday the pits open at 9:30 a.m., practice begins at Noon, the LV Alliance $500 Pole Award session is at 3 and racing begins at a special time of 5 p.m. for this race.  The gates will be open for spectators free of charge for Friday's practice.

In addition to AP Motorsports, race and award sponsors include Allegiant Air, the Hantz Group, Penske Racing Shocks, DTS-Drive Train Specialists, Sunoco/Bazell Race Fuels, Port City Racecars, LV Alliance, All Star Performance, Lane Automotive, Burge Wrecking, R & M Recycling, Kish Ambulance, Celebrations, the Sylvania-Jackman Auto Credit Center of Franklin Park and the Speedway Bar and Grille.  A drawing will be held for fans in attendance for two (2) round trip tickets from Toledo to Florida, courtesy of Allegiant Air.

Reserved seat tickets are now on sale by calling the track office.  Visa and Mastercard are accepted for phone orders.  Just 10 laps of lap money remain for sponsorship at just $10 per lap, with the leader of each lap receiving the bonus.  For tickets or lap money, call the track office at 419-727-1100.
