Yee-Studt-Ford-Brehmer Notch Flat Rock Victories; Turner 4 Cylinder Champ

FLAT ROCK, MI: (8-29-09): Stan Yee Jr., Greg Studt, Regan Ford, Troy Brehmer and Brad Turner steered to victories on Glass Unlimited Night at Flat Rock Speedway. Walter Krause of Glass Unlimited presented the trophies and bonus money to the winners in post-race festivities on a very unseasonably cool August evening.

The 50 lap ARCA Moran Chevrolet/Miller Lite Late Model feature saw lapped traffic and a substantial amount of 3-wide racing take place throughout the contest.  2003 champ Stan Yee Jr. returned to the winner's circle by leading every lap of the event.  Yee started from the pole and the cool night kept the outside lane a little slick.  When it did arrive, the 3-wide action started and never stopped.  Yee darted in and out of lapped traffic with Dennis Strickland on his bumper and fast qualifier Justin Schroeder (11:664), moving up from his 7h starting spot to third, in tow.  Ricky Kargel, Paul Pelletier and Eric Lee all went to the high side and move up on the top 3 as the laps wound down.  With heavy lapped traffic now in the mix, Lee got turned sideways in turn 2 on lap 41 and ended up with enough damage to his car to end the night for the current point leader.  Yee took off on the restart and held on for his win, which he dedicated to the memory of his father, Stan Sr.  Strickland, Schroeder, Pelletier and Kargel were next in line to complete the top 5, with Steve Cronenwett Sr., Keith Nelson, Ron Allen, Chris Benson and Jeremy Vanderhoof completing the top 10.  Cronenwett, Brian Norton and Royce Cornett won the heat races, with George Rangel taking the last-chance race.  26 Late Models were on hand.

Greg Studt darted into the lead at the green and held that spot the entire distance to capture the 20 lap ARCA Figure 8 main event.  Jeremy Vanderhoof slipped by Billy Earley just past the halfway mark to grab second, Earley was third, Dennis Whisman fourth and Robbie Loving fifth.  Gary Cronenwett, Jeremy Miller, Chris Cox, Sam Hall and James Rae were next in line at the stripe.  Loving set the Loving Auto Care fast time at 20:454.  Whisman and Tim Murphy captured the heat race events.

The all-green flag 25 lap ARCA Street Stock A main went right to the wire as Regan Ford returned to action, this time in the #57 car and just beat his brother Dan by inches in a 3-wide finish for the victory.  Greg Studt led the first 4 laps until Regan nosed under Greg to take control.  Randy DeMaggio stayed glued to Regan's deck lid as Dan Ford Jr. moved up to battle the leaders.  With lapped traffic coming up, Regan moved up the track and DeMaggio did the same while Dan Jr. went to the 3rd lane coming to the white flag.  Using the lapped car as the meat in the sandwich, Dan nosed ahead just a bit entering turn 4 while Regan chose the low side.  With his foot to the floor, Regan had just enough to beat his older brother as the crowd rose to its feet.

Dennis Strickland nosed into third at the finish, with DeMaggio fourth and Chad Guinn fifth, followed by Tim Moore, Studt, Derek Wiley, Dave Tanner and Jeff Kurzyniec.

Troy Brehmer lead the final 5 laps to win the 15 lap Street Stock B main.  Lonnie York was the leader for the first 10 laps until he and Darrel Krause tangled.  York held on to his car and did not spin, but a broken panhard bar ended his night.  Brehmer took charge and zipped to the win over Rich Abel, Billy Cronce, Carl Dickie, James Pankow, Harold Davis Jr., Krause, Jim Stocker, Jimmy Little and Glenn Gregg.  Strickland topped the 40 car field in time trials with a lap of 13:270.  Studt, Kurzyniec, Chris Fitzpatrick, Camilli and Davis Jr. were the heat race winners.

The ARCA 4 Cylinders ran their final point race of 2009 to determine their champion for the season and Brad Turner continued his dominance by capping off a great year by winning the 20 lap finale.  David Price pushed his new machine to the lead and held the point for 12 laps with Shawn Bershback in pursuit.  Turner reeled in the pair to make it a 3-car battle and on lap 13, Brad made a 3-wide pass for the lead and the eventual victory.  Berschback, Price, a fast-closing Michael Marlow, Perry Marlow, Tony Thomas and Jennifer Cronce followed the winner to the finish line.  Price won the heat race.

The 2009 track championships are up for grabs Saturday, September 5 as Diamond Racing Products presents the Season Championship races, capped off by a fireworks display!  The ARCA Moran Chevrolet/Miller Lite Late Models, Figure 8 and Street Stock A and B Main champs will be crowned next Saturday.  Upon conclusion of the night, a fireworks display will hit the skies over "The Rock".  The grandstand gates will open at 4, time trials begin at 5 and racing starts at 7 p.m.
