Toledo Speedway 50th Anniversary: A Look Back at 1990

1990-BLACK BANDIT KESELOWSKI ENDS TOLEDO VICTORY DROUGHT

Bob Keselowski ended a long victory dry spell at Toledo Speedway by taking the Snap On Tools 125 ARCA Permatex Supercar Series race. Keselowski, the 1983 Toledo Speedway late model division track champion, extended the string of consecutive races with different winners in the ARCA Series to 8 winners in as many races.

Bob Strait was the pole qualifier and jumped out to the early lead, pacing the first 31 circuits. When Strait's engine blew in turn 3, it spelled disaster for both him and Bobby Bowsher, both of whom crashed when they spun in the oil from Strait's powerplant. Rookie 2nd generation driver Jerry Cook, son of 3-time Toledo late model champ Harold Cook, then took the lead. Jerry Cook, himself a former Toledo sportsman division track champion, led until the 94th lap when a collision with an errant wheel from Scott Stovall's car cost him the lead. Keselowski inherited the lead at that point, and the familiary #29 Black Bandit machine cruised to a 7-second margin of victory over Chris Gehrke. Local late model driver John Wyman, son of long time ARCA Official Jack Wyman, logged his career best series finish in 3rd ahead of Bill Venturini and Bob Brevak.
