Stephens, Gibson, Schuster, Rabideau Beat Rain at Toledo

TOLEDO, OH  (8-7-09)--  Trent Stephens, Zach Gibson, Landon Schuster and John Rabideau were the winners on Western Lake Erie Insulation Industry Night Friday at Toledo Speedway.  Threatening weather stalled the show for a period of time, but track personnel and the race teams worked together to complete the racing card.

The MSA Super Modified 30 lap main had just 1 yellow flag and 3 different race leaders.  Jon Henes led the field to the green and held the point for the first lap, with Bobby Dawson taking control of the event on lap 2.  Trent Stephens masterfully worked his way through traffic, picked up the lead on lap 7 and sailed to the victory.  A lap 23 yellow flag for Kyle Edwards erased Stephen’s big lead, but on the restart the youngster stood on the gas and sailed to the win.  Tim Jedrezejek came home second, Charlie Schultz third, Tim Ice fourth and Dawson fifth, followed by Gene Lee Gibson, Henes, Matt Palmer, Rich Reid and Danny Shirey.  Fast time honors went to Jedrzejek at 13:331.  Heat race wins went to Schultz and Jedrzejek.

The open-wheel doubleheader also featured the Buckeye 305 Sprint Cars in action on the fast ½ mile paved oval.  Early leader Tyler Dunn had his engine let go and coated the track with oil on lap 3, bringing out the red flag.  On the restart, Frank Neill took charge, but dropped to pit road on lap 4.  Zach Gibson then assumed the point and held on for his second win of the season at Toledo.  Tim Buchanan tried to chase down Gibson but settled for second.  Talon Stephens, Chris Michael, Joey Wykoff, Tommy Kunz, Ross Rollins, Kurt Huber, John Patanko and Todd Buchanan were next in line to complete the top ten finishers.  Tim Buchanan lowered his track record in time trials with a lap of 14:085.  Gibson nosed out Neill in a great heat race, while Dunn took the other heat event.

With mixed emotions, Landon Schuster came to race Friday night.  His grandfather, former Toledo Speedway owner Sonny Adams, passed away this week.  Landon started the evening by taking a lap around the ½ mile in his car in memory of Adams.  The roll of the dice put Landon on the pole of the 20 lap ARCA Speedway Tire and Auto Factory Stock feature, and the young man led every lap in the all green flag event to claim the emotional win.  Schuster had all kinds of company as Dave Arnold Jr. and Cory McCaughey applied the pressure the entire distance.  With 4 to go, Arnold nosed out to the high lane and McCaughey dove down to the inside.  Schuster slipped coming to the white flag, and the trio bunched up for the run to the flag.  Landon again got sideways coming out of turn 4 but had just enough to grab the big victory.  As he pulled to the infield to do a victory “donut”, the axle snapped on his machine!  McCaughey took second, Arnold Jr. (in AJ Padgett’s car) third, Matt Ringger fourth and Eric Huston (in TJ Miller’s car) was fifth.  Mike Hassen, Brian Ringger, Tim Shine, Ryan Beabout and Craig Osenbaugh completed the top ten finishers.

John Rabideau celebrated his first-ever win by claiming top honors in the 10 lap B Main race over Mike Hacker, Brad Turner, Brian Moore, Dylan Winterhalter and Mark Davis.  McCaughey set fast time for the 26 car field at 11:963.  Heat race winners were Rabideau, Matt Ringger, Ramon Ortiz and Alan Bland Jr.  Amanda Bland notched the last-chance race victory.

NASCAR star Kyle Busch will race at Toledo Speedway next Friday night, August 14 in the CRA Super Series Late Model 100 lap feature.  Busch will make his way to Toledo after his duties at Michigan International Speedway.  Kyle will sign autographs for 1 hour at his souvenir trailer inside the spectator gates after CRA qualifying, which begins at 6 p.m.  Allen Chevrolet-Cadillac will sponsor the night of racing.  The ARCA Sportsman and 4 Cylinders will run features only, with the ARCA Speedway Tire and Auto Factory Stocks will also be in action.  ALL tickets go on sale at 3 p.m. race day.  The gates will open at 3:30, practice begins at 4, time trials are at 6 and racing begins at 7:30 p.m.
