Toledo Speedway 50th Anniversary: A Look Back at 1980

1980-JUNIOR HANLEY SWEEPS TOLEDO CLEAN

Canadian ace Junior Hanley continued his dominance of late model racing at Toledo Speedway, taking the 50-lap mid season championship race over Chuck Roumell, Dave Simko, Don Mallott and Ed Cooper. Hanley, in doing so, also set a new track record (14:21.88), eclipsing the previous record set by Joy Fair (14:44.11) in 1976. Hanley also captured the dash and fast heat, while the Carolina Flash Royce Cornett took the other heat.

Von Manning led all the way to take the 20-lap sport stock event over Steve Cronenwett and Phil Knepp. Bob Studt came from the rear of the field to win the 25-lap hobby stock feature over Phil Myrice and Dave Whisman.
