Fair Jr. Grabs All Sport/Monroe Evening News 100 Win at Flat Rock

FLAT ROCK, MI: (7-25-09): 2-time defending Gold Cup champion Harold Fair Jr. zipped to the win in the All Sport/Monroe Evening News 100 in the Hantz Group/Allegiant Air Gold Cup Late Model feature Saturday night at Flat Rock Speedway. Many fans went home with prizes handed out by Santa Claus for the annual Christmas in July promotion. Rain fell at the track during qualifying, but a great effort by the race teams and officials resulted in a quick drying process and just a brief delay to the start of the show. Fair finally dented the win column for the first time in 2009 via his victory.  With an inversion of 9, Fair Jr. started from the pole for the 100 lap shootout, Harold Jr. led the 24 car ARCA Moran Chevrolet/Miller Lite Late Model field to the green flag.  The second-generation driver was able to pull out to a comfortable lead while several challengers battled back and forth for position.  After a yellow at lap 90, the pressure was on as Justin Schroeder, Steve Cronenwett Jr. and Paul Pelletier lined up behind Fair Jr. for a 4-car dash type finish.  With 3 laps to go Schroeder and Cronenwett Jr. tangled, sending Cronenwett into the backstretch wall, ending his night.  Fair Jr. had enough to grab win number 1 of the season and the $2000 top prize.  Pelletier continued his improved runs with his new car by taking second, third was Eric Lee, Mike Root was fourth and Dennis Strickland fifth, followed by Steve Cronenwett Sr., Royce Cornett (from 17th starting spot), Brian Norton (from 23rd), Chris Benson and Dick Barker.  Lee set fast time for the 28 car field with a lap of 11:729.  Cornett took the 15 lap last-chance race over Dan Trosen Jr., Jeff MacZink, Roger Blackstock and Rick Sheppard.  Those 5 drivers moved on to the 100 lap feature.
