Hantz Group/Allegiant Air Gold Cup at Flat Rock Saturday; Santa, Too

FLAT ROCK, MI: Leg number 4 of the 5-race ARCA Hantz Group/Allegiant Air Gold Cup Late Model Series takes place this Saturday, July 25 at Flat Rock Speedway. The All Sport 100 lap feature event is on tap, along with full race cards for the ARCA Figure 8's and Street Stocks. Santa Claus will also pay a visit to hand out prizes for the track's annual Christmas in July prize giveaway promotion.

A field of 22-25 ARCA Moran Chevrolet/Miller Lite Late Models should be on hand for the 100 lap contest on the ¼ mile paved oval.  Current Gold Cup point leader Mike Root of Grand Rapids, MI will make the trip to Flat Rock and try to pad his lead for the Series with 2 races remaining.  Current Flat Rock point leader Eric Lee is also expected to be in competition.  Entries have been received from Jeff Bailey, Justin Schroeder, Harold Fair Jr., Harold Fair Sr., Tom O'Leary IV, Royce Cornett, Steve Cronenwett Jr., Stan Yee Jr., Jake Francis, Paul Pelletier, Dick Barker, Joe Hawes, Ron Allen, Jeff MacZink, Brian Norton, Dennis Strickland and Larry Smouthers Jr. 

Root's point lead is 55 markers over Cronenwett Jr., with Fair Jr. and Strickland (tied) another 15 markers back from second spot.  Pelletier sits in 5th spot, 105 points behind leader Root.  Strickland and Root were tied headed into last Friday night's show at Toledo, but Dennis encountered mechanical woes while Root sailed to a 4th place run.  The final race of the Series is set for the following Friday, July 31 at Toledo Speedway for a 75 lap feature event.  The Hantz Group/Allegiant Air Gold Cup champion will take home a $1000 bonus and the championship jacket, 2nd spot gets $600, third place $400, fourth spot $300 and fifth place $200.  The awards will be doled out at the annual awards banquet in November.  The top 3 will also receive two round-trip tickets from Toledo to Florida, courtesy of Allegiant Air.

The pits will open at 1:30, practice begins at 3, time trials are at 5 and racing begins at 7 p.m.  The front gates will open at 3 p.m.  ALL tickets are general admission and will go on sale the day of the event at 3 p.m.  The track phone number is 734-782-2480.  Flat Rock Speedway is located 1 mile south of Flat Rock on Telegraph Road, 5 minutes from I-75 or I-275.

Track officials have just announced that a FIREWORKS display has been added to the Saturday, September 5 Diamond Racing Products Season Championships at Flat Rock Speedway. 

The ARCA Moran Chevrolet/Miller Lite Late Model, Figure 8 and Street Stock 2009 track champions will be crowned in the final point race of the season.  For the first time, all feature events will include the customary inversions.  In previous years, the championships were started straight-up according to the point standings.

The evening will be concluded with another of the great Volcano Fireworks Company displays at "The Rock".  Race time is 7 p.m. for the Saturday night Labor Day weekend event.
