Allen Nails Down Fasten Roofing Night with Win at Flat Rock

FLAT ROCK, MI: (7-18-09): Ron Allen made his first run of 2009 in the ARCA Street Stock class a good one, grabbing the victory in the 50 lap A Main feature race Saturday night at Flat Rock Speedway on Fasten Right Roofing Night. Paul Falkenburg notched the B Main win and Billy Earley made it 4 wins on the season by virtue of his win in the ARCA Figure 8 feature. The TKC Go-Karts staged a pair of exhibition races prior to the start of the program. A total of 49 Street Stocks were on hand for the show.  The A and B classes at Flat Rock are split via time trials.  The 24 car A Main field began the 50 lap affair with Dave Tanner bolting into the lead at the green flag.   Allen, working his way up to do battle with Tanner, used the high lane and had plenty of company as an amazing 7 car pack battled for position. Behind that group was another 4-5 cars running side by side as great racing action took place around the entire ¼ mile oval.  Allen charged into the lead on lap 16 after running door to door with Tanner and the veteran set sail.  Dennis Strickland began his move to the front as did Steve Cronenwett Jr. just past the lap 35 mark.  With only a few yellows, the pace was quick and Allen kept his lead to gain the victory for car owner Dennis Randall.  Strickland was second, Cronenwett Jr. third, Tim Moore fourth and Randy DeMaggio was fifth.  In sixth spot was Jeff Kurzyniec, who started 19th and used the high lane all night long for his great finish.  Dan Ford Jr., Tanner, Clyde McKee and Gary Cronenwett (in Jim Selmi's car) completed the top ten.

Former B Main champ Jimmy Rae appeared to be headed for another win, but Paul Falkenburg took advantage of the inside lane when it opened up, snared the lead on lap 21 and held on for the win in the 25 lap B Main feature race.  Darrell Krause followed Paul down to the inside of Rae and came home second, with Rae third, Chris Fitzpatrick fourth and Carl Dickey fifth, followed by Lonnie York, Anthony Camilli, Troy Brehmer, Rich Abel and Billy Cronce next in line to complete the top ten.  Derek Wiley was the fast qualifier at 13:408, but encountered engine woes on lap l7 while moving into the top five in the A Main.  Bob Swanson topped the B cars at 13:833.  Swanson, too, had problems as his car quit on a yellow flag with just 4 laps to go while running second, up from his 11th starting spot in the B feature.  Chad Guinn, Kyle Worley, Steve Prucnell, Krause, York and Kyle Metdepenningen took the heat race wins.

The hot streak continues for Billy Earley in the ARCA Figure 8 division as the second-generation driver scored win number 4 of 2009 and his second in a row, taking top honors in the 20 lap ARCA Figure 8 feature race.  Earley, at the wheel of Rob Martel's car, took control on lap 3, taking the lead from Jerry Lee and took off from the rest of the pack on his way to victory.  Earley had 2 close calls at the intersection on the final lap as he zipped to the win over Robbie Loving, Dennis Whisman, Greg Studt, Jeremy Vanderhoof, Gary Cronenwett, Jeremy Miller, Lee, Sam Hall and Jimmy Rae.  Cronenwett took the Loving Auto Care fast time award with a lap of 20:679.  Heat race winners were Hall and Miller.

Lonnie York was the only contestant in the Rollover Contest, getting up on his roof and sliding down the front straight into turn 1.  His effort was worth a cool $500!

Saturday, July 25 Santa Claus will pull out his bag of prizes for the annual Christmas in July prize giveaway at Flat Rock Speedway!  Separate drawings will be held for both children and adults; fans will register when they enter the track for the racing card, which will be highlighted by the All Sport 100 for the ARCA Moran Chevrolet/Miller Lite Late Models.  The race is leg number 4 of the Hantz Group/Allegiant Air Gold Cup Series between Flat Rock and Toledo.  A field of 25-30 Late Models is expected for the all green flag 100 lap main, which pays $2000 to the winner!  The ARCA Figure 8's and Street Stocks will also be in action.  The gates open at 3 and racing begins at 7 p.m.
