Trackside Tidbits by Debi Domby

This past weekend was the annual Triple 50 races at Flat Rock.

The SLMs have raced six times at Flat Rock this season and Eric Lee has either won or been second in all six of those races (sorry if this jinxes you this week). This week he was in Victory Lane for the second time this season. "It was a good race. I got to the front and stayed out of trouble. The car was on rails tonight," said the driver of the Dusty's Collision, Allied Roofing, Arrow Uniform Rental, Auto/Con, Complete Prototype Services, D&E Landscaping, ET Performance, LaBelle Electrical Contractors, Posen Construction, Powertran Transformers

The "Most cars passed in the feature award" goes to Stevie Cronenwett. He and Chris Benson tangled on lap seven and since neither driver could decide whose fault it was, both went to the rear. Cronenwett passed 15 cars on the way to the front and a second place finish. Afterwards, Cronewett drove his Street Stock to third place in the A division 50-lap feature.

Paul Pelletier finished fourth despite having the front end out of alignment after being involved in on of the five cautions.

Chris Burkhart was unable to start the feature because of damage sustained to his car in an accident during his heat.

For the third time in four races, Tim Moore found himself on the pole for the A division feature. And for the third time this season, he ended his night in victory lane. For most of the race he ran unchallenged for the top spot. It is the first time in his racing career that he's won three feature events in a season. Tonight's win gives him 12 career A division feature wins, tying him with Tom Selmi for 13th on the all time list. "I'm just glad to come home in one piece tonight. After all that happened tonight ... I was glad I got to start on the pole. I want to thank Amy for buying me my tires for my birthday present, Dow Engines and MAACO," said the driver from Southgate, Mich.

Scott Selmi finished second, his best finish of the season. "Tonight's been the fastest that my new car's been all year. The last yellow with 12 laps to go cooled down my tires too much. I was better on the long runs. This was only my third race this year with my new car and it gets faster every time out so I'm really looking forward to next weekend," said the driver of the #21.

It was a rough week for a lot of the A division drivers. The first accident happened on lap two when Clyde McKee rode up Randy DiMaggio's rear tire and nearly flipped his #4 over. The pair was in the front of the field and stacked up most of the field behind them. McKee retired with damage and  a handful of cars pitted and returned to the even, including last week's winner Dennis Strickland and DiMaggio.

The second 'big one' was when Chad Guinn, Randy Cornett, and Jeff Kurzyniec all hit the frontstretch wall and each other. David Kind was also involved. All four of the drivers retired with heavy damage. Cornett's car had all four corners severely damaged.

The only one I heard back was from Jeff Kurzyniec's team who report that the car will be ready to go for this week's 50-lap A feature. The car had front suspension damage, brake rotor, front bars, but there was no frame damage. That's for the email....

Rookie Darrell Krause started on the pole and held off John Huebner Sr., Rich Abel and Lonnie York for his first career feature win. "Finally everything came together. I want to thank my crew and Burkhart Motorsports.

Returning to racing after about a two and a half, three-year absence was Mitch Crider. "I've been blessed with really great friends. My car is a combination of pieces given to me by so many people. The only thing that is mine is the frame and the roof," said the driver of the #11 (for those of you wondering, his former number, 99, is in use by Dan Ford Jr. and the crew decided that 11 was an easy number to put on with racer's tape if the numbers didn't get painted on). It's interesting who all "donated" parts, we'll get those next week.

Dennis Randall who has raced for probably 20 some years at Toledo in various divisions has bought Rich Romanini's #57 to give Flat Rock a try. He just got to the track and had no laps with the car until qualifying. His first race was starting on the outside front row of the B division feature. His car stopped during the first caution and had to be pushed to the infield.

Billy Earley won the Figure 8 feature. Sorry didn't get the interview I left when Chris Cox apparently blew his engine. Billy's still driving Robbie Loving's backup car, so we'll just use Robbie's sponsors: RJS Racing, Blossom Florist, Beaver Creek Resort.

Sam Hall has taken over the controls of the #02, formerly driven by Bryce Thompsen. Hall has the ride for the rest of the season.
