Santa Delivers as Promised at Toledo

TOLEDO, OH: (7-10-09): Santa Claus made good on his promise to race fans Friday night at Toledo Speedway as over 40 lucky race fans walked out with a prize as part of the Christmas in July promotion. On the track, Terry Jones, Robbie Loving, Landon Schuster, Randy Padgett and Brad Turner captured feature wins on Velvet Ice Cream/Lakeshore Utility Trailer Sales Night. The Maumee Valley Seaway Commanders performed the National Anthem.

A short field of ARCA Sportsman cars put on a great show, as Terry Jones held on to top Jim Froling and Ron Allen in a 3-wide finish at the stripe for the victory.  David Frantz charged into the lead at the start, holding the lead until lap 4 when Rich Abel took control.  His lead was short-lived as Jones steamed by on the outside lane on the next lap to take the point.  Howard Kelley Jr., Ron Allen, Art Rozane and Jim Froling began their march to the front and Allen got by Kelley for second, setting his sights on Jones.  The duo battled for the final 15 laps as Froling jumped into the tussle.  Allen tried high and low and swung high on the final lap, giving Froling an opening at the bottom as the trio came to the stripe.  Jones was there, with Froling and Allen flanking him on both sides.  Fourth went to Rozane, who came from the back after tangling with Kelley Jr., with fifth spot to rookie Kenny McKay Jr.  Frantz, Tom O'Leary IV, Norm Lewallen, Scott Lockenour and Jim Brazeau completed the top ten.  Allen set quick time at 17:386, with the heat wins to Allen and Frantz.

Robbie Loving survived a wild 20 lap Figure 8 feature, getting tangled with rookie Chris Cox on the final lap, righting his machine and grabbing the win.  Rookie Cox led the first 5 laps until Loving caught him and slipped by.  Lapped traffic was very heavy the entire distance, with several collisions and near-misses giving the good crowd a thrill lap after lap.  Dennis Whisman came home second, Jeremy Vanderhoof slid home in third with a heavily damaged right front, fourth was Scott Apperson and fifth went to Anthony Terris, followed by Tim Murphy, Cox, Rick Sheppard, Chuck Pankow and Tom O'Leary Jr.  Vanderhoof and Whisman notched the heat race wins.

The all-green flag 20 lap ARCA Speedway Tire and Auto Factory Stock feature was a dandy, with Landon Schuster nosing out a great run by Cory McCaughey to score the victory.  Don Cox led the strong field for 10 laps, with Schuster battling Don the whole way until he slipped by to take the lead on lap 11.  He then had company as McCaughey applied the pressure for the final 5 laps.  At the stripe, Landon had just enough to grab the victory over Cory, Eric Huston, Dave Arnold Jr., Josh Bunting, Craig Osenbaugh, Tim Shine, Cox, Alan Bland Sr. and Ramon Ortiz.  Randy Padgett was the winner of the 10 lap B Main, topping Jesse Carrillo, Kent Jones, Dusty Brunt, Kevin Little and John Rabideau.  Huston set fast time at 11:784 to lead the 28 car field.  Randy Padgett, Arnold Jr., Ortiz and Archie Padgett took the heat race wins.  Alan Bland Jr. took the last-chance race honors.

Brad Turner led the field to win the 20 lap ARCA 4 Cylinder main event.  Second was Perry Marlow, third went to Michael Marlow, fourth to Matt Brazeau, with Dave Stadnicuk and Shawn Kamann completing the rundown.  The fast qualifier was Turner at 13:023.  Turner also took the heat win.

Friday, July 17 Marco's Pizza and Teamsters Local 20 present the return of the ARCA Late Models to Toledo Speedway.  The Hantz Group/Allegiant Air Gold Cup Series will stage a 75 lap main event on the big ½ mile paved oval, with the ARCA Factory Stocks and 4 Cylinders also in action.  Race time is 7:30 p.m.
