LEGENDS HERO CARD TO FIRST 1000 FANS THROUGH GATES SATURDAY AT FLAT ROCK

FLAT ROCK, MI: (6-24-09): The anticipation and excitement continues to build each and every day for the prestigious Moran Chevrolet/Stan Yee Memorial 150 Saturday night, June 27 at Flat Rock Speedway. Track staff has just announced that the first 1000 fans through the front gate will receive a Legends Hero Card, picturing many of the drivers who piloted the Stan Yee #33 machines during his over 40 year career as a car builder and owner.

The card features drivers Marv Parenteau, Joe Ruttman, Artie Sommers, the late John Anderson, Danny Byrd, Harold Cook and Chuck Roumell.  And also included in the photo montage on the cards is a rare photo of Joy Fair behind the wheel of the legendary #33 car!  It was previously thought that Fair did not drive a Yee-prepared car during his storied career.

Ruttman will race in one of Stan Jr.'s team cars, while Fair, Byrd, Sommers and Cook have indicated they will attend the event and take part in pre-race ceremonies.

Rick Sheppard, Steve Lee and Stan's son, Stan Jr., also piloted Yee's Collision machines.  Sheppard, Steve's son, defending Flat Rock champ and current point leader Eric Lee and Stan Jr. are all expected to compete in the 150 lap contest Saturday night for the ARCA Late Models.

The event is part of the Hantz Group/Allegiant Air Gold Cup Series, made up of 5 events during the 2009 season.  Two legs are scheduled for Flat Rock, with the remaining 2 set for Toledo Speedway.  Scott Hantz won leg number 1 at Toledo May 22, but has prior commitments and will not be able to compete Saturday.

finleychadcandid.jpgA practice session is slated for this evening at "The Rock".  17 year old rising star Chad Finley from Lansing, MI has indicated he will be at Flat Rock today to test his machine in preparation for Saturday's event.  This will be Finley's first trip to Flat Rock.  Additional entries should be in tonight after the test session, which should move the list to over 30 Late Models.

Additional bonus money will once again be added to the purse for Flat Rock Speedway's biggest Late Model race of the season, the Moran Chevrolet/Stan Yee Memorial 150, set for Saturday evening, June 27 at the ¼ mile paved oval.  Each of dollar figures for the 24 starting positions will now end in 33, which adds money to each spot.  And new for 2009, the fast qualifier will have the chance to take The Challenge, which will award a $1000 bonus if he starts last and wins the 150 lap event.

If the fast qualifier chooses not to take "The Challenge", the offer will be made to the second fastest driver and on down to the 5th fastest if each of the previous drivers decline.  Additional bonus money includes $333 for the Diamond Racing Products fast time, while an additional $333 bonus will go to the leader of lap 33.

The event will now pay $2533 to win and $533 to start the contest, with drivers from Michigan, Ohio, Indiana and Canada expected.  The track's Figure 8 and Street Stock classes will also be in competition as support divisions.

Should a driver sweep the awards (fast time, lap 33 leader, challenge and win), he could go home with $4199, a record amount for a Late Model race at Flat Rock.  The additional bonus money is being posted by friends and the family of Stan Yee Sr.  The bonuses now push the June 27 total purse for the night to over $25,000.

All tickets for the event are general admission and are available beginning at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 27.  The pit area opens at 1, practice begins at 3, time trials are set for 5 and racing begins at 7 p.m.  The entry list will be updated Thursday morning.
