Toledo Speedway 50th Anniversary: A Look Back at 1960

1960-AL BEALE WINS FIRST-EVER EVENT STAGED AT NEW TOLEDO SPEEDWAY

Al Beale, who with his brother Rollie form the famed Toledo racing Beale Brothers duo, captured the first-ever event at the Toledo Speedway before a good opening night crowd.

Al drove the Butler-Drowns #52 Supermodified to the 20-lap feature win over Benny Rapp, Bob Pickens and Harold McGilton. Beale also captured the first heat, Australian pursuit and an added helmet dash event.

The trophy dash for the four fastest qualifiers went to McGilton over Rollie Beale, bob Krist and Jim Young, who was the fastest qualifier of the 35-car field at 23.24 seconds around the dirt half mile. Other heat winners were Jack Kraylek and Rapp.
