Allen Turns Tables on Jones in Toledo Tussle

TOLEDO, OH: (6-5-09): 5-time track champion Ron Allen reversed roles with Terry Jones Friday night at Toledo Speedway, taking the lead on lap 18 on the way to victory in the 35 lap ARCA Sportsman feature on Wendy's Family Fun and Autograph Night. Robbie Loving, Eric Huston and Ramon Ortiz also visited the Glass Bowl Lanes Winner's Circle and were greeted by Wendy for the trophy presentation. The non-stop 35 lap Sportsman main was a duplicate of last week's race, but Allen picked up his first win of 2009.  Jones took the lead at the green and he was chased by Allen, as the duo sped away from the rest of the pack.  For 17 laps, Allen looked high and low to no avail, ducking down low in turn 4 on several occasions.  Finally on lap 18, Ron dipped low coming out of turn 2, grabbed the lead and motored away to the victory over Jones, Howard Kelley Jr., Rick Sheppard, Art Rozane, Tom O'Leary IV, Jim Froling, Kenney McKay Jr., Norm Lewallen and Tom O'Leary III.  Sheppard and Rozane battled to the flag for that fourth spot.  Froling started up front but encountered mechanical woes, dropping him back in the running order.  Allen set fast time at 17:452, with heat wins to Jones and Rozane.

A sensational, action-packed ARCA 20 lap Figure 8 feature saw Robbie Loving hold back the furious challenge of Dennis Whisman to take the win.  The lead pair thrilled the crowd with their daredevil moves through the intersection, even turning sideways on several times to get through the traffic.  Loving zipped between 2 cars on the final circuit to gain his first win of the year, with Whisman second, Scott Apperson third, Jeremy Vanderhoof fourth and Anthony Terris fifth, followed by Brice Thomsen, James Rae, Chuck Pankow, Tim Murphy and Stephanie Bradley.  Thomsen and Vanderhoof captured the heat race events.

Eric Huston slipped by race leader Randy Padgett on lap 18 and held on to win his first race of the season in the 20 lap ARCA Speedway Tire and Auto Factory Stock feature race.  Padgett ran a great race, taking the lead at the green and staying glued to the bottom of the track.  Dave Arnold Jr. ran side by side with Randy for 8 laps until Huston slipped under the leaders coming to the stripe with 2 to go.  Huston made a slick move to take the lead, only to have Padgett slip and collide with Eric.  They held on as Huston took control.  Arnold Jr. and Tim Shine came together in turn 4, bringing out the yellow and sending the pair to the tail.  Huston held on for the final 2 tours to take the win over Padgett, Josh Bunting, Cory McCaughey, Mike Hassen, Jesse Carillo, Brian Ringger, Landon Schuster, Alan Bland Sr. and Amanda Bland.

Ramon Ortiz zipped by on the outside lane to grab top honors in the 10 lap B Main.  First-time Toledo visitor Rick Bennett took second, TJ Miller was third, John Rabideau fourth and Kevin Little fifth.  McCaughey set fast time for the 29 car field at 11:925.  Hassen, Bland Sr., Mike Hammer and Brad Turner took the heat race wins.  Don Cox took the last chance race over Craig Osenbaugh, Hammer, Archie Padgett and Ryan Beabout.  Those 5 moved to the main event.
