Jones Holds off Allen for Toledo Victory

TOLEDO, OH: (5-29-09): Amherst, Ontario Canada driver Terry Jones withstood a 20 lap battle with Ron Allen to win Friday night's Valvoline Instant Oil Change-sponsored ARCA Sportsman feature at Toledo Speedway. Landon Schuster, Mike Hammer and Matt Brazeau also posted wins in front of a good size group of kids on Scout Night. Eric Crompton of Valvoline and many of the guests of the company presented the trophies to the winners in the Glass Bowl Lanes Winners Circle.

With just 1 yellow flag, the 35 lap Sportsman event was very competitive.  Early leader Norm Lewallen gave way to Jones on lap 5 as the top 10 diced back and forth for position.  On lap 9, David Frantz tagged the turn 1 wall, bringing out the yellow.  The remainder of the event went green as Jim Froling, Ron Allen and Howard Kelley Jr. moved up to challenge Jones for the top spot.  Froling's car developed mechanical woes as he slowed while Allen went to second spot, Kelley Jr. third and Rick Sheppard fourth.  Jones and Allen broke away from the rest of the field and ran nose to tail for 20 laps, as Allen ducked low and looked high but to no avail.  Jones scored win number 2 of 2009, with Allen second, Kelley Jr. third, Sheppard fourth and Art Rozane fifth, followed by Tom O'Leary IV, Lou Hill, Froling, Lewallen and Kenny McKay Jr.  Allen posted quick time at 17:414.  Heat wins went to Rich Abel, Rozane and Gary Denis.

A great 3 car battle in the non-stop ARCA Speedway Tire and Auto Factory Stock class saw Landon Schuster make a slick move to the inside as he went 3-wide with leader Don Cox and Matt Ringger on lap 12 and zipped to the win in the 20 lap main event.  Cory McCaughey followed Landon to the front and came home second, with Dave Arnold Jr. third, Josh Bunting fourth and Archie Padgett fifth, with Eric Huston, Randy Padgett, Cox, Tim Shine and Brian Ringger next in line.  Bunting set quick time for the 23 car field at 11:889.  Huston, Ken Davis and TJ Miller took the heat wins.  Davis, who picked up his first-ever checkered flag, also won the last-chance race.  Mike Hammer also became a first-time winner by taking the 10 lap B Main feature event over Mike Hacker, Dusty Brunt and John Rabideau.

It was survival of the fittest in the 20 lap ARCA 4 Cylinder feature race, as Matt Brazeau outlasted Michael Marlow and Dave Stadniczuk to take the victory.  Dave had the lead until lap 10 when he and Brazeau tangled, giving the lead to Brad Turner.  On lap 14, Nick Walentowski hit the wall and David Price had a suspension piece break.  Turner, while waiting to restart the event, could not get his car fired, ending his night, giving Marlow the lead.  Brazeau got by on lap 17 to grab the win.  Marlow, Stadniczuk, Turner, Price, Walentowski and Perry Marlow were next in line.  Turner set fast time at 12:985.
