Big Labor Day Weekend Set For Flat Rock, Toledo Speedways

Flat Rock, MI and TOLEDO, OH  (8-20-2008)--  There’s plenty of racing action in store for fans in the Southeastern Michigan/Northern Ohio area, as Flat Rock and Toledo Speedways prepare for the Labor Day weekend with 3 big events on the calendar.

The action begins with the first-ever Friday night show at Flat Rock August 29.  The Aquafina 250 lap Enduro race and the ARCA David’s Jewelry 4 Cylinder class will hit the track at 7:30 p.m. Friday night for the event, which was originally set for Sunday afternoon, August 31.  After some discussion with the race teams, the race card was moved to Friday evening.  The 250 lap Enduro race pays a cool $1000 to the winner.  The Friday night race is a first at “The Rock” in over 30 years.

After a quick night’s sleep and clean-up of the track, Flat Rock jumps right back with its scheduled ARCA Speedway Bar and Grille Figure 8 Season Championship Saturday, August 30.  3-time king Dennis “The Rebel” Whisman is just a few points ahead of 2-time defending champ Robbie Loving in the season-long chase for the Flat Rock title. Greg Studt, Jeremy Vanderhoof and Billy Earley are right behind the lead duo as the season comes to a close for the “Motor City Madmen”.  The ARCA Moran Chevrolet/Miller Lite Late Models will also be in competition August 30 as well as the ARCA Greater Detroit Auto Auction Street Stocks.  Race time is at the traditional 7 p.m. for Saturday evening racing.

It’s on to Toledo Speedway Sunday evening, August 31, located just 30 miles south of Flat Rock Speedway.  The ARCA Allegiant Air Late Models will compete in their biggest race of the season to date, a 100 lap main event, which will determine the track Gold Cup title, which is comprised of 5 events during the 2008 season.  Harold Fair Jr. holds the upper hand over Justin Schroeder, Dennis Strickland, Paul Pelletier and Brent Jack in the quest for the Gold Cup championship.  The 100 lap contest, which pays $2500 to win and $500 to start on the big ½ mile paved oval is expected to draw a solid field of entries in what will be the final tune-up before the Glass City weekend, which is set for Saturday, September 20.

In addition to the Late Models, the Toledo Figure 8 and A-1 Auto Parts Factory Stock classes will also crown their 2008 track champs Sunday evening, August 31.  Whisman goes for the Figure 8 sweep as he is just 50 points ahead of Vanderhoof with 1 race to go, while Dave Arnold Jr., Cory McCaughey, 2007 champ Eric Huston and Landon Schuster are battling for the Factory Stock title.  A Wives and Mechanics race will also be held after the completion of the Sunday night race card.  Race time is 7 p.m.

All three events are general admission, walk-up sale seating.  The front gates open at 6 p.m. Friday at Flat Rock and 3 p.m. Saturday, while Toledo’s front gate opens at 4 p.m. Sunday, August 31.  For more information, go to www.flatrockspeedway.com or www.toledospeedway.com
