Glass City Champ to Drive Super Modified at Toledo Friday Night

TOLEDO, OH  (7-17-08)--  Veteran Tim Ice has filed an entry for the MSA Super Modified portion of tomorrow evening’s Marco’s Pizza Night show at Toledo Speedway.  Ice has made his name in Late Model racing in the Midwest, and won the 2000 version of Toledo’s famed Glass City 200.

The Doylestown, OH resident has racked up 10 Late Model wins at Toledo in his career, and the former “Iceman” Late Model Series was dubbed such after Tim’s dominance of the tour in the 1980’s and 1990’s at the ½ mile paved oval.

Ice returns to Toledo for the first time in several seasons, but has perhaps the most experience of the Midwest Super Modified (MSA) drivers entered for Friday’s event at Toledo.  Second-generation star DJ Shullick, Tim Jedrezyck, Randy Burch, the Gibson brothers, Gene Lee and Terry, Denny Fisher, former Toledo winner Jon Henes, Jack Smith, Moe Lilje and others will challenge for top honors for the Marco’s Pizza-sponsored race card.

The MSA event is the one and only appearance of the World’s fastest short track cars at Toledo this year (the ISMA race that was scheduled June 13 was washed out).  Lap times in the 13 second bracket are expected, which puts the average speed at over 120 miles per hour on Toledo’s wicked-fast ½ mile.  The low-slung, winged creations bring an exciting atmosphere and tomorrow night’s show should bring more of the same.

The track’s weekly ARCA Sportsman, Factory Stock and 4 Cylinder divisions will also be in action.  The front gates open at 4:30, time trials are set for 6:15 and racing begins at 7:30 p.m.  Tickets will go on sale at 4:30 p.m. when the gates open.
