Interest and Purse Grows for Moran Chevy/Stan Yee Memorial 150 at Flat Rock

FLAT ROCK, MI (6-9-2008)-- Flat Rock Speedway’s biggest Late Model race of the season, the Moran Chevrolet/Stan Yee Memorial 150, set for Saturday, June 21 has now taken a step up in purse money. The Yee family and friends have stepped forward to add additional monies to the event. Yee, a hugely successful car owner for over 40 years, passed away May 18, just 2 days shy of his 76th birthday. His son, Stan Jr., is a weekly competitor in the Late Model division at “The Rock”.

The 150 lap contest will now award $2533 to the winner. To pay tribute to Yee, each position of the purse money will end in 33.

Thanks to several Flat Rock Speedway sponsors and the Yee family and friends, the Fast Qualifier will receive $333, and, the leader of lap 33 will also walk away with an additional $333. The leader of lap 133 will also receive a $333 bonus. Giles Auto Body, Sterling Printing and Graphics and EELS Corporation have stepped forward to support the event. A driver, should he sweep the event, could take home over $3500 in prize money.

With a solid payoff down the line and the newly-added prestige to the race, Flat Rock’s signature Late Model event on the 2008 calendar is expected to be a great race, much like the previous 150’s at the ¼ mile asphalt oval. “Adding the Memorial race to the Moran Chevy 150 adds a great deal of prestige to this event,” noted Ron Drager, owner and promoter of Flat Rock. “Stan Yee was well-liked and greatly respected by our race teams and track officials. The 150, Stan’s favorite race, deserves to have his name added to it.”

Stan was a fixture in Midwest Late Model racing since the 1960’s. Both on dirt and the asphalt, Stan’s famed #33 cars won countless races. Drivers such as Marv Parenteau, Joe Ruttman, Artie Sommers, the late John Anderson, Rick Sheppard, Danny Byrd, Harold Cook, Chuck Roumell, Steve Lee and his son, Stan Jr., piloted Yee’s Collision #33 machines.

An open practice is scheduled for Wednesday, June 18 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Flat Rock. All race cars are welcome.

Entries are now available and may be downloaded from www.flatrockspeedway.com or call the track at 734-782-2480. The June 21 event will also feature the Flat Rock Figure 8 and Street Stocks as part of the race card. Race time is 7 p.m.
