ARCA Late Models Return to Toledo for Glass City Gold Cup; First Race May 9th

TOLEDO OH (4-28-08)--The ARCA Late Models will venture to Toledo Speedway a total of 6 times in 2008, kicking off the Glass City Gold Cup Late Model Series presented by Allegiant Air Friday evening, May 9 at the ½ mile paved oval. The Series will consist of 5 point races, with a champion to be crowned in the final point race Sunday, August 31. The year culminates with the 20th running of the Miller Lite Glass City 200 September 20.

2007 Gold Cup champion Harold Fair Jr. has already entered, along with his father, ageless veteran Harold Fair Sr.   Western Michigan area hotshoe Joe Bush of Hastings, MI has also filed an entry for the series, along with 2007 series runner-up Brent Jack of Auburn, IN.  2004 Toledo champ Joe Hawes of Brownstown, MI and 2006 Flat Rock Speedway king Paul Pelletier of Trenton, MI have also inked entries for the series.  Cocoa, Florida resident Jared Allison is also entered, piloting a team car to the Fair father-son duo.

The Series takes on a little different look for this year.  The first 4 contests will be 50 lap features on the lightning-fast ½ mile paved oval.  The four dates are Friday, May 9 (Big Red Crème Soda Night), Sunday, May 25 (Toledo UAW Cap Council Night), Friday, June 27 (BCSN Night) and Friday, August 8.  The 5th and final race is a 100 lap event, slated for Sunday evening, August 31 of Labor Day weekend.  The ARCA National City Bank Sportsman division will be paired with the Gold Cup Series for the first 4 events on the schedule, with 50 lap events slated for this class May 25 and June 27.

The top 3 in the final points will each receive two round-trip tickets from Toledo to Orlando, Florida, courtesy of Allegiant Air.  Allegiant will also have several ticket give-aways for race fans during the season at Toledo. 

A total of three (3) provisional starting spots are also set aside for the Miller Lite Glass City 200 from the final Gold Cup point standings.  The 2008 edition of this season-ending race promises to be one of the best ever.  Defending 200 champ Brian Campbell has already indicated he will defend his Glass City title this year.

The Late Models first appearance on Big Red Crème Soda Night, set for Friday, May 9 has the pit area opening at 3, practice at 4:30, time trials at 6:15 and racing at 7:30 p.m.  The ticket office also opens at 4:30.  Toledo Speedway, in addition to cash, now honors American Express, VISA and Mastercard for ticket purchases on race nights at the ticket window.
