REMEMBERING CATHY KNAKIEWICZ

Catherine (Cathy) Knakiewicz, 71, who served in various capacities as an ARCA Official across all the company’s properties with her late husband Ed for more than 40 years, passed away Friday March 9 at Kingston Rehabilitation Center in her hometown of Toledo, Ohio.

Alongside her beloved husband Ed Knakiewicz, Cathy was a mainstay at the local ARCA sanctioned Flat Rock and Toledo Speedway short tracks from 1964-2010. She worked primarily as a ticket seller, also answering phones and assisting in management of the ticket office, while Ed was the pit area registrar and pace car driver. In addition to their Flat Rock and Toledo Speedway duties, both Ed and Cathy represented ARCA at sanctioned events across the country at tracks including Daytona Int’l Speedway and Talladega Superspeedway as officials of the ARCA Racing Series.

Outside her ARCA activities, Cathy worked for over 20 years at Craft Master, where she met her future husband Ed, and retired in 2015 from Midwest Tapes. She and Ed enjoyed camping at Pleasant View Campgrounds in VanBuren Ohio and she was an avid bowler, participating in numerous leagues at Toledo area bowling alleys over the years. She was a member of St. Hyacinth Catholic Church.

Cathy is survived by nieces Shirley (James) Sumner and Deborah (James) Bohland; nephew Mike Small; and many Knakiewicz and Blazey family nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

Visitation will be Wednesday March 14 from 2-8 p.m. at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd. in Toledo. Funeral services will begin at 9:15 a.m. Monday in the funeral home and continue with Funeral Mass in St. Hyacinth Church at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Donations are suggested to the Toledo Humane Society.

Cathy Knakiewicz, like her late husband Ed, was a valued and trusted long time ARCA official. Cathy and Ed's passion for the sport was matched only by the many friendships they developed over the years with everyone they met at the tracks.

Thank You Ron For Posting This On The Arca Website. Arca Was Definitely My Uncle Ed's And Her Life For Many Years. She Would Of Loved It. She May Not Be With Us Any Longer. But Will Live On For Many Years To Come In Our Hearts. Theresa
