Versatile ARCA RE/MAX Series Heads Home to Toledo Speedway
Fresh from the Springfield mile-dirt and the Chicagoland Speedway, the ARCA RE/MAX Series heads for its home track this Friday, September 4th for the ARCA RE/MAX 200 presented by Federated and Belle Tire, the 16th event on the 2009 series tour. The event at Toledo is the third race in a grueling six-race stretch during which the series will race at six tracks in less than four weeks. This particular six-race leg, which includes two dirt tracks, two paved short tracks, one superspeedway and one road course, does well to depict the overall diversity of the tour.
Lofton, Kligerman in Tight Championship Points Battle Headed to Toledo
Westmorland, California driver Justin Lofton leads 19-year-old Westport, Connecticut rookie Parker Kligerman by 55 points headed into the Friday's race at Toledo. While Kligerman has a season-high six wins in 2009, including the spring race at Toledo, Lofton has won three of the last four events (Berlin, Pocono & Chicagoland). Veteran Frank Kimmel trails in third 330 points out of first.
Kimmel All-Time Toledo Winner
Frank Kimmel leads in the win column at Toledo with a record 9 Toledo triumphs. Kimmel, who has 74 career series wins overall - second all-time to Iggy Katona's 79 - earned his career-first series win at Toledo in 1994. Kimmel, who hasn't won since Salem September 2008, hasn't won at Toledo since September 2005.
Former Toledo Winners
In addition to Kimmel, former winners include Bobby Bowsher (five), Tom Bowsher (four), Bruce Gould (four), Ken Schrader (four), Dave Dayton (three), Iggy Katona (three), Benny Parsons (three), Bob Strait (three), Jack Bowsher (two), Moose Myers (two), Les Snow (two), Blaise Alexander, Justin Allgaier, Ken Butler III, Matt Carter, Jim Cushman, Joy Fair, Woody Fisher, Ed Hage, Andy Hampton, Ron Hutcherson, Bob Keselowski, Parker Kligerman, Larry LaMay, Michael McDowell, Howard Rose, Ramo Stott, Scott Stovall, Bill Venturini, Bobby Watson and Dave Weltmeyer.
Remembering BP
A 1969 Holman Moody Ford Torino used by Benny Parsons to win the 1968 and 1969 ARCA Championships will be on display at Toledo Speedway on Friday, September 4 as part of the ARCA RE/MAX 200 presented by Federated and Belle Tire race weekend. The car, which looks exactly like it just pulled off the track in 1969, will be displayed in the concourse area and current owner Barry Miller will make a lap around the half-mile Toledo Speedway in the car during pre-race ceremonies. Parsons holds the distinction of being the only driver who has won championships in both the ARCA RE/MAX Series and the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.
Tight Toledo Turnaround for Schrader, ARCA RE/MAX Series Troops
From Toledo Speedway Friday night, the series will immediately pack up and steer toward southern Illinois for the 57th running of the Southern Illinois 100 at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds mile-dirt coming Monday, Labor Day, September 7th. NASCAR veteran Ken Schrader is entered for both Toledo and DuQuoin. Schrader, who has 4 wins at Toledo ('97, '04, '05 & '06), also won back-to-back at DuQuoin in '06 & '07.
