Track record holder VanDoorn tests at Toledo for Spring 200

TOLEDO, Ohio (April 16, 2017) -- The Spring 200 season opener for Toledo Speedway is less than a week away. Over the last couple weeks, the track has had a steady stream of drivers testing ahead of next Saturday's (April 22) Spring 200.

Johnny VanDoorn and Kevin Stahl were the most recent to test, VanDoorn in his ARCA CRA Super Series car and Stahl in the Outlaw Late Model Gold Cup car.

VanDoorn couldn't help but notice how fast the track continues to be.

"Track is fast...whatever it did over the winter, lap times seem to be wicked fast," said VanDoorn.

"Toledo's already as fast as it is...one of the fasted that we go to. Today, it just seems like, even when the car isn't handling, the lap times are just quick. It's going to be a fast-paced race next week; that's for sure."

VanDoorn not only won in the ARCA CRA Super Series at Toledo last year, the Coopersville, Michigan driver set the one-lap track record in qualifying.

"Yeah we own the track record...15.1 or something. We were absolutely flying that day. We won the track record and won the race."

VanDoorn has already raced twice this season.

"It's going to be good...this will be our third race of the year. We're just trying to get as much track time as we can...get a jump on the competition, and keep continuing to develop our race cars. We build 'em in-house now...have our own business building them. Anytime you can come to the track, experiment and R and D and try and figure out the next best thing, it's always an advantage."

The Spring 200 will be made up of two main events -- 100 laps of ARCA CRA competition and 100 laps of Outlaw Gold Cup cars. VanDoorn will be concentrating on the ARCA CRA side.

"We'll possibly be here doing double duty for the Glass City...that's my intention. Just need to see how the year goes."
