FLAT ROCK, TOLEDO LEGENDS VISIT ARCA GARAGE AT DAYTONA

A trio of legendary drivers from Flat Rock and Toledo Speedway’s rich history were honored visitors to the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards garage area at Daytona Int’l Speedway this past week.

Dick Mitchell, Joe Ruttman and Jerry Makara, all of whom now reside full time in Florida, were in attendance and visited among themselves as well as with numerous visitors just outside the ARCA Racing Series Official Transporter in the Daytona garage area. Ruttman was introduced at the pre-race Driver Meeting as the winner of the 1982 Daytona ARCA 200.

Mitchell is the winner of 8 ARCA Late Model features at Toledo, 11 ARCA Late Model features at Flat Rock and is the 1966 ARCA Late Model champion at both tracks. He is now 91 and resides in Daytona Beach. (For more Mitchell photos, click here)

Makara won 8 ARCA Late Model feature races combined at Flat Rock and Toledo, in addition to 11 ARCA Figure-8 features and is the 1968 ARCA Figure-8 champ at Flat Rock. (For more Makara photos, click here)

Ruttman is a 2-time Toledo Speedway Glass City 200 winner, won 17 ARCA Late Model features at Toledo and 6 at Flat Rock, won ARCA Racing Series races at Michigan Int’l Speedway in 1980 and Daytona in 1982, won the 2001 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Daytona and made 225 starts in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, including a pair of 3rd place finishes in the Daytona 500.
