FROLING-EDDY-VANDERHOOF TOLEDO VICTORS

Toledo, Ohio—May 15, 2016: A windy and very cool afternoon awaited fans and race teams for the Marco’s Pizza Scout Day at Toledo Speedway Sunday. Jim Froling, Travis Eddy and Jeremy Vanderhoof captured the feature events and visited the 7-Up Winners Circle. Chef Marco from Marco’s Pizza presented the trophies.

The ARCA Aramark Late Model Sportsman division made their first appearance of the year for the 50 lap R & M Recycling Silver Cup race. The 3-race Series, which will also count to the track championship, saw Kevin Stahl motor into the lead at the green. Kevin was strong out front as he led the first 14 laps. Ron Allen slipped by Kevin on the next circuit and held the point for 5 laps until Jim Froling assumed command. Froling had followed Allen by Stahl and got by Ron on a re-start after Levi Mansfield spun in turn 2. Froling stayed about 6 cars lengths in front of Allen until the yellow came out on lap 48 when Stahl and Mansfield tangled. Jim stayed ahead on the restart to claim the victory over Allen, Kent McCloskey came on strong for third, Mike Demars returned from a several-year hiatus and grabbed fourth, while Kenny McKay captured the fifth spot. Mansfield, Andy Harding, Stahl Jr., Kyle Worley, Gerald Wheaton, Tom O’Leary IV, Dan Grigsby, Greg Stilwell and Mike Young completed the finishing order. Young dropped off the pace on the very first lap to end his day. Howard Kelley scratched from the race.

Froling set quick time at 17:173. Heat winners were Young and McKay Jr. McKay Jr. also grabbed the Ray’s Door Hard Charger $50 (Most Improved) Award, while McCloskey won the Fastime Racing Engines and Parts random draw $50 bonus. Harding and McCloskey won the Bazell Race Fuels/Sunoco Race Fuels $50 bonuses.

Second generation star Travis Eddy took to the high side and grabbed the lead from Mark Bott on lap 14 as he scored the 25 lap DTS Drive Train Specialists-sponsored Modified contest. Bott zipped into the lead at the green, while a great battle ensued for second spot between Joey Wyckoff, Joey Morrisette, Doug Meyer, Greg Fullerton and Eddy. Travis broke loose and got to second on lap 11 and reeled in Bott 4 laps later as he sailed to the victory in the all-green flag race. Bott and Meyer ran door to door for the final 2 laps as Bott nipped Meyer in a great battle for second, with Meyer third, Morisette fourth and Fullterton fifth, followed by Bob Sibila Jr., Wyckoff, Kenny Sharp and Jason Wells. Eddy set quick time at 16:374, with Sibila and Bott taking the heat wins.

A 12-car field in the ARCA Victory Lane Oil Change Figure 8 division put on an exciting show for the fans that braved the day. Jeremy Vanderhoof weaved his way in and out of race traffic, avoided the intersection mayhem and posted the win in the 20 lap contest over Dennis Whisman, Jeremy Miller, Billy Earley, Greg Studt, Dennis Whisman Jr., Archie Padgett, Randy Roberts, David Katatiasz, Ricky Ferrell, Travis Earley and Dan Apperson. Apperson and Whisman Jr. took the heat wins.
