LATE MODEL RACER ED HAGE PASSES

LATE MODEL RACER ED HAGE PASSES

July 7, 2015:  Ypsilanti, MI native Ed Hage, a former Late Model racer for many years, passed away Monday, July 6.

Hage ran for the late Harlan Boyd in the #62 car in the 1970’s and was one of the first drivers to go below the 17 second mark at Toledo Speedway in a Late Model.    He also fielded his own Late Model for many seasons.  Ed also ran in the ARCA Series (now the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards) and won several races in dominating fashion in his V-6 powered machine.

Ed’s career began at the now-shuttered Manchester, MI Speedway dirt oval.  While Hage never won a championship, he was known for getting the most out of his car and being a tough competitor.  Ed raced across the Midwest at many, many tracks but did most of his racing at Flat Rock, Toledo and Mt. Clemens.  He captured 10 feature wins at Flat Rock and was the very first ARCA Late Model Gold Cup champion in 1997.  Ed’s best finish in Toledo’s Glass City 200 race was fifth in 1974.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and again from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, July 9, at Stark Funeral Home, 101 S. Washington St., Ypsilanti, where the funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 10.
