TOLEDO WINNER HELBERG CLAIMS KING OF THE WING TITLE

Toledo, Ohio—November 26, 2014:  Rohnert Park, CA driver Jo Jo Helberg was crowned the over-all winner of the inaugural “King of the Wing” for Winged Sprint cars after his win Sunday night at Kern County, CA Speedway.  The 6-race Series, which saw 3 Midwest events in July and the 3 remaining contests last weekend in California, was put together by Indy 500 veteran and current team owner Davey Hamilton.  Helberg captured 4 of the 6 contests en-route to his championship, giving him a clean sweep of the Midwest, West Coast and over-all titles.

Helberg was the champion of the Midwest swing, scoring wins at both Toledo, OH Speedway and Winchester, IN Speedway, and garnered a 3rd place run at Grundy County, IL Speedway back in July.  The race was won by Troy DeCaire.  Jo Jo’s Toledo win came with a late-race pass, while his Winchester victory saw a pass of leader DeCaire on the final turn to score the big win.

The West coast tour began Friday evening, November 21 at Madera, CA Speedway.  The event was won by Jacob Wilson, with Helberg notching a third place run.  The rest of the weekend belonged to Jo Jo, as he zipped to victory at Irwindale, CA Speedway Saturday night and flew to the win and championship as he closed out the Series with the victory at Kern County.  Helberg also set a new track record Sunday night with a lap of 14:296.

Plans are being made for the 2015 version of the King of the Wing Series, with details to be announced in the coming weeks.
