Kile, Kimmel On Top of First Practice at Pocono

kilecandid2010.jpg(LONG POND, Pa. - July 30, 2010) - Mikey Kile and Frank Kimmel led the opening ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX and Menards practice at Pocono Raceway this morning, replicating the starting front row from the series' last race on the 2.5-mile triangle in June.

Kile's late lap of 54.258 seconds (165.874 mph) gave the No. 25 Venturini Motorsports Toyota the top spot over Kimmel, who led for much of the 100 minute-session and drove the No. 44 Ansell/Menards Ford to a lap of 54.405 seconds (165.426 mph) with just minutes before the practice closed. Kile drove 16 laps in the session, and Kimmel completed 12.

Kile won the pole at Pocono just eight weeks ago, and appears primed to make a run for the top spot today. Menards Pole Qualifying presented by Ansell for tomorrow's Weis Markets 125 will take place at 1:40 p.m., with live timing and scoring and live audio coverage available on ARCARacing.com.

Donny Lia drove the No. 55 Venturini Motorsports Toyota to third on the opening practice chart with a lap of 54.561 seconds (164.953 mph). Robb Brent (No. 36 Orchard Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Dodge) charted fourth, while Tom Hessert (No. 77 Cherry Hill Classic Cars Dodge) completed the top five, despite an oil line puncture. Hessert claimed on-track debris caused the damage, and for that the practice session experienced its second of three caution periods.

Brandon McReynolds, Patrick Sheltra, Joey Coulter, Justin Marks, and Dakoda Armstrong comprised the remainder of the top 10.

Craig Goess, winner of the Messina Wildlife Animal Stopper 200 in June, drove the 11th-fastest best lap, but will change his engine before qualifying.

"We felt a little bit flat during practice. The motor didn't feel as good as it did last time. We changed carbuerators, different ignition boxes, but it didn't seem to help. The car felt good toward the end and we should have been turning better times," Goess said. "We're changing the motor and transmission, doing anything to make the car feel better. The guys are working hard and hopefully we can go out in qualifying and lay down a good lap."

40 cars completed laps, and Tim George Jr. finished the most of any driver, with 27.
